The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) stated in its latest report that the operations of private media outlets in Afghanistan are becoming increasingly restricted day by day.
According to the report, private media are facing a crisis due to both economic constraints and directives issued by the Taliban authorities.
The report notes that many private media organizations have laid off portions of their staff due to financial difficulties.
UNAMA emphasized that public access to information is being increasingly curtailed.
The report also highlights that the Taliban label media outlets reporting on human rights issues as “enemies of Islam.” Additionally, the Taliban are monitoring social media users and have detained some individuals.
UNAMA further stated that freedom of expression in Afghanistan has been severely restricted, noting that the Taliban arrested seven journalists just last month.
