Following the end of the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran, Iranian police have arrested and imprisoned more than 21,000 individuals due to security concerns.
According to a report by Reuters, these widespread operations were launched after Israeli airstrikes targeted Iran on June 13.
Reuters further reports that Iranian authorities have increased the number of security checkpoints across the country and urged citizens to report any suspicious individuals to the police.
So far, Iranian police have not released detailed information regarding the charges or alleged crimes of those detained.
Meanwhile, humanitarian organizations have reported that some Afghan refugees have been accused of spying for Israel and detained by Iranian authorities.
