According to a press release issued by the Taliban’s provincial office in Panjshir, a total of 6,482 carats of emerald have been sold from the province’s mines, valued at $107,599.
The statement adds that the emeralds were sold on Tuesday through a public auction to both domestic and international investors.
It further notes that 10% of the proceeds from the sale will go to the Taliban treasury, while the remaining funds will be allocated to contracted companies.
The emeralds were reportedly extracted and sold over the past two weeks from mines located in the Hesa Awal district of Panjshir province.
