Pakistan Rejects UN Request to Delay Deportation of Afghan Refugees

The Pakistani government has forcibly expelled thousands of Afghan refugees from its territory since the start of the deportation process.
Following the recent earthquake in Afghanistan, UN High Commissioner Filippo Grandi requested that Pakistan delay the deportation of Afghan refugees.
He stated that due to the crisis caused by the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, forcibly removing refugees at this time would increase pressure on the country and worsen its already fragile situation. However, the Pakistani government rejected the UN’s request and announced that it will continue the deportation process.
On Friday, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said that the deportation of Afghan refugees is a sovereign decision of the Pakistani government and will be implemented.
