On the 16th of September, the Taliban imposed a ban preventing female employees of the United Nations from entering its offices in Kabul.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemned this action and called on the Taliban to allow female staff to return to work.
UNAMA stated that the ban is not limited to Kabul but has also extended to other UN offices in Herat and Mazar-i-Sharif. According to UNAMA, Taliban security forces have been visibly stationed outside UN compounds to prevent women from entering.
UNAMA added that these restrictions have negatively impacted the lives of women affected by recent earthquakes and those returning from neighboring countries, as female UN staff are not allowed to work and assist Afghan women.
UNAMA has urged the Taliban to immediately lift the ban
