German media have reported that since the beginning of August this year, the Pakistani government has detained 661 Afghan refugees who were waiting in Pakistan to be relocated to Germany.
Out of these, 248 individuals have already been deported back to Afghanistan, according to the reports.
Germany’s Funke newspaper stated that 51 of the detained individuals were former members of Afghan security forces. It also reported that 124 of those arrested were part of Germany’s federal refugee admission program, and 73 others were scheduled to be relocated through separate humanitarian initiatives.
The German government has responded by saying it is conducting a fresh security review of all Afghans currently in Pakistan who were accepted under its refugee admission program.
