Iranian Officials: Illegal Entry of Afghan Migrants into Iran Has Increased Compared to the Past

Majid Shoja, the head of border forces in Iran’s Khorasan Razavi province, says that this year there has been a significant rise in the illegal movement of people from Afghanistan.
According to Shoja, in just the first half of this year, more than 40,000 Afghan migrants who crossed the border illegally were arrested and deported back to Afghanistan.
This figure shows nearly a twofold increase compared to the same period last year.
Iranian officials often refer to these migrants as “illegal foreign nationals” and are working to prevent their entry.
