According to a press release from the Taliban authorities in Maidan Wardak province, a mortar shell left over from previous conflicts exploded on Saturday afternoon in the village of Lur Kili, located in the lower part of Chak district. The explosion occurred while schoolchildren were playing with the shell, resulting in the death of one student and injuries to four others.
The statement notes that the shell was a remnant of past wars and detonated during the children’s play, causing the tragic casualties.
