Swiss media have reported that Switzerland has reopened its office in Afghanistan, now under Taliban control.
According to the reports, the office is focused on humanitarian aid and operates under the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, specifically within the division for development and humanitarian cooperation.
Switzerland is among the first European countries to reestablish a presence in Kabul after several months of absence.
The office is led by Eric Markley, who stated that it currently employs five Swiss nationals and ten Afghan staff members, including three women.
Markley emphasized that the office’s activities are currently limited strictly to humanitarian assistance.
This development comes shortly after a Taliban delegation traveled to Switzerland to monitor the process of repatriating Afghan asylum seekers with criminal records.
