The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reports that over 2.3 million Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan this year.
The agency stated that many of these refugees were forced to return due to pressure from Iran and Pakistan, while Afghanistan is not adequately prepared to receive and reintegrate them.
The organization has called on the international community to provide urgent assistance to these returnees and to pay attention to their situation.
Reports indicate that the repatriation process is ongoing, and thousands more Afghans are expected to be expelled from Pakistan and Iran.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), nearly 4 million Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan over the past two years.
