Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, says that the Taliban have publicly flogged twice as many people this year compared to last year.
According to him, the Taliban have flogged 672 individuals since the start of this year.
He states that 547 of them were men and 125 were women, all punished publicly in front of crowds.
Bennett expressed concern over the increase in corporal punishments by the Taliban, calling it a clear example of a worsening human rights crisis in Afghanistan.
He adds that the humanitarian situation in the country is deteriorating day by day.
So far, the Taliban have not responded to Richard Bennett’s statements.
