The UN High Commissioner for Refugees stated in its latest report that it has halted the distribution of cash assistance to returning refugees in Kandahar, Kabul, Nangarhar, and Herat provinces.
According to the report, this decision was made because the Taliban have imposed a ban on female staff members.
They explained that female employees are unable to return to their duties and support the women among the returning refugees.
The organization emphasized that unless the Taliban allow women to work, it cannot provide services in a safe and fair manner—not only to women and girls, but to all returning men and women.
The agency stressed that the distribution of cash assistance will remain suspended until this issue is resolved.
