A former officer of the Afghan National Army under the previous republic, who fled Taliban oppression and unemployment in hopes of reaching Europe and seeking asylum, was arrested by police in Belarus. He was reportedly beaten, and his arm was amputated at the shoulder.
In a message sent to the media, he stated: “I was an asylum seeker, not a war prisoner. The Belarusian police treated me with extreme cruelty and destroyed my life.”
It should be noted that widespread unemployment, economic hardship, and restrictions and abuses by the Taliban have forced thousands of young Afghans to take dangerous, illegal routes to foreign countries
