Shopkeepers from the Third Yarāna Market in District Nine of Kandahar city told Cheragh Television that the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice closed their shops and detained them because of shaved or short beards.
According to them, the Taliban repeatedly visit the market and arrest individuals over beard length, which has disrupted their daily lives.
They said that the Taliban came to the market and detained all those who didn’t have beards, later transferring them to the police station.
The detainees were released only after family elders provided guarantees, and the Taliban made them pledge not to trim their beards again.
This comes amid increased Taliban surveillance in Kandahar’s markets that sell women’s clothing and fashion items.
