The government of Tajikistan has officially confirmed, through a statement, that it has previously deported Afghan refugees and is planning to expel more in the near future.
According to the Tajik authorities, some refugees are residing in the country illegally or have been involved in various crimes, which is why the government has decided to remove such individuals from its territory—including Afghans.
The United Nations stated that on the 17th of Saratan (July 7), Tajik authorities summoned Afghan refugees and asylum seekers in certain areas of the city of Vahdat and told them they must leave Tajikistan within 15 days. That deadline ends today, prompting the Tajik government to once again highlight its plans to deport refugees.
