Throughout the past 20 years of the republican system in Afghanistan, not a single girl graduated from the school in the village of Karz, located in Dand district of Kandahar, which is the home village of former President Hamid Karzai.
From the beginning of Karzai’s rule until the fall of the republic, there was only a primary school for girls in Karz village, but no high school.
With the return of the Taliban to power, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has emphasized girls’ education and has consistently called for opening the doors of schools and universities for girls and women in his speeches.
He also expressed sadness over the absence of girls in the 1404 (2025) university entrance exam and once again hoped that schools and universities would be opened for girls.
Meanwhile, political analysts told Chiragh TV that Karzai views the issue of reopening girls’ schools through a political lens and is using the topic of girls’ education for his own political purposes.
