Local sources from Pakistan told Chiragh TV that on Thursday evening, in the Shewa area of North Waziristan, armed attackers opened fire on the Pakistani military and fled the scene. In response, the military fired at civilians, killing a young Pashtun man and injuring another.
In reaction to the incident, Hanif Pashteen, a leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), condemned the killing and blamed the military. He wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account:
“In this ongoing dollar-driven war, the greatest victims are always the ordinary Pashtuns. Our homes and lands have been turned into battlegrounds, and only the Pakistani army benefits.”
This incident is the latest in a series of alleged human rights abuses against Pashtuns in the tribal regions of Pakistan.
