Cheragh Television has obtained a decision by the Taliban in Kandahar to relocate several departments of Mirwais Regional Hospital—including ophthalmology, neurology, dermatology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and others—to the 350-bed hospital in Aino Mena.
Residents of Kandahar consider this decision unjust toward the people of the city and surrounding districts. They argue that patients from Kandahar and its districts cannot easily access the Aino Mena hospital, and transferring patients there for treatment imposes additional costs that poor families cannot afford.
One resident said: “Aino Mena is 20 kilometers away from the city. Previously, patients from remote districts could be dropped off directly in front of Mirwais Regional Hospital. Now, they must pay between 500 to 1,000 Afghanis for a taxi to reach the 350-bed hospital in Aino Mena.”
