SIGAR: Taliban Diverting Humanitarian Aid to Preferred Regions

The United Nations has reported that the Taliban are interfering in the distribution of humanitarian aid across Afghanistan. According to the UN’s political office, the Taliban have imposed restrictions and created obstacles in the aid delivery process.
A recent report by the U.S. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) states that the Taliban are redirecting aid to areas they favor and attempting to distribute it primarily among their own supporters.
The report also alleges that some Taliban officials have accepted bribes from UN personnel in exchange for contract approvals.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghanistan has received over $10 billion in international aid, with 36 percent of it provided by the United States
