Former Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Amrullah Saleh, wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account that if U.S. support were withdrawn from Zalmay Khalilzad, he would not, based on personal merit, even hold the status of a village elder.
Mr. Saleh added that Khalilzad served as a U.S. envoy on global affairs solely due to strong American backing. However, in terms of character, he remains a tribal-minded and narrow-thinking individual. Saleh claimed that Khalilzad used his position and influence to settle even school-era scores with former President Ashraf Ghani.
Zalmay Khalilzad has not yet responded to Amrullah Saleh’s remark
